Local Unions Come Together to Build New CWLP Power Plant Months Ahead of Schedule.
City, Water, Light and Power’s $542 million Dallman 4 power plant went online at 11:27 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 months ahead of schedule. Operating on natural gas, a startup fuel, the generator was operating at an average of 13 megawatts. One mega-watt hour is enough electricity to power about 500 - 700 homes for one hour.

Aug. 27, 2003 — Consultants Black & Veatch presents results of future generation study
April 11, 2006 — Contract for furnishing, fabricating and delivering structural steel awarded
Nov. 30, 2006 — Official groundbreaking
Dec. 4, 2006 — Construction starts
Dec. 20, 2006 — Boiler foundation begun with contractors from Boilermakers Local 363 out of Belleville, IL.
May 14, 2007 — Boiler steel erection begun September 2008 — Electrical backfeed to plant started with electricians from IBEW 193 out of Springfied, IL.
November 2008 — Pressure (hydrostatic) test boiler
April 2009 — First fire on natural gas and steam blow
May 11, 2009 — First synchronization to electrical grid

Spring Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction Begins.
The Springfield Metro Sanitary District has begun construction on a big, multi-year, multi-phase project, creating many construction jobs.

 

Ground Breaking Ceremony on Chatham's New Elementary School.
Local unions joined forced to begin construction on the newest elementary school for the growing Chatham school district. Work is expected to begin Spring 2009 and will use the skilled workforce from the Central Illinois Building & Construction Trades.
